Here is a first look at Dendrophylax Lindenii – my lil’ 8×8″ violet graphite piece for Travis Louie’s “Zombie” group show, opening on May 25th at NYCs Last Rites gallery. Click the image to see it bigger. Having just finished an Aeon Flux tribute diptych for Gag Me With a Toon 5, I’d been on an Egon Schiele (one of Peter Chung’s bigger influences) kick. Those of you familiar with his work probably recognize the hint at the pose from one …

My piece for the Gag Me With a Toon 4 exhibit: Cheburashka’s Holiday 8×10” color pencils on paper. Sold. Cheburashka and Krokodil Gena are Soviet era characters from a stop-motion animation. They’re not especially well-known in the West, but Japan adores Cheburashka almost as much as I do! Here is the original, feature-length Cheburashka, for when you have an hour to spare.

I took time off painting this week to let the oil dry and to work on tattoo commissions. This one is for a patient, lovely Canadian who first contacted me well over a year ago, but was lost in the email abyss. She initially wanted something heavily biomechanical yet feminine. When I began to draw though, inspiration kept shoving me back to the minimalicious autoreids in Ergo Proxy and the iconic cyborgs in Bjork’s All is Full of Love video. Fortunately, …

A few weeks ago I was asked to create a custom, detailed, feminine take on the Heartless symbol from the Kingdom Hearts video game (click here to see what the original looks like). I took inspiration from medieval etchings of crests for this project, so the research was fun, especially when I came across the occasional griffin or unicorn hidden in swirling filigree. The inspiration was purely visual, though, as actual crests usually include banners, mottos and other specifics. My finished …

Just about done with a piece for a UK client, who asked for a spoooky mermaid. She’s going to reside on the right side of the client’s torso. This was fun to work on; I hadn’t drawn a mermaid –subject of countless childhood sketches– in ages. I wanted to create something a little different from the countless existing interpretations of the subject, so research was a big part of this process. This piece by Waterhouse and this one by Harry …

Just finished this up yesterday and am fairly pleased with it. A peek into my tattoo design process: it’s going on the client’s upper arm, so I requested a photo of the exact area and created a digital mockup before drawing anything – the idea here is that the piece will cover most of the upper arm and the legs and filigree will wrap around a bit. The mockup is too hideous to show you, though. Below are two possible …

Technically this isn’t an “Inkdrop”, but we have more important things to focus on. As just announced over at Coilhouse, I have a piece in Travis Louie’s epic collaborative art show, The Ghost of Delilah and Other Stories. Here is a super-secret previous of mine and Travis’ collaboration, titled “Cosmic Dreams”. Travis is on a plane right now and can’t punish me for showing it to you. Yet. Other collaborations include work by Craola, Chet Zar, Lola, Fred Harper, my …

It’s been ages since the last time I’ve released a new print, so I’m extra-pleased to announce that Turquoise Tart, the Infect section header for Coilhouse Issue 05, is now available for purchase. This very small run is in the original, milky color scheme, and only around during the month of August. Click here to go to the shop now!

Coilhouse 05 will hit stores in just under two weeks, but signed copies with special inserts are already 3/4 gone from our web shop. You can see a comprehensive by-article assessment of the issue here. From the post: Zoetica imagined a blithe, enchanted world of dancing sheiks and courtesans when working on this issue’s Inform/Inspire/Infect section headers. Powdered wigs and perfect maquillage complement tassels and cymbals, as these bejeweled vixens shimmy you into each section. The headers also feature the …

Presenting some things I’ve been doing for your eyeballs! 1. A certain poster project took up most of last week. The art part actually done now, and it’s down to the design aspect of the beast, on which I’m hoping to collaborate with Courtney Riot, provided that designing Coilhouse issue 05 doesn’t drain her of all power. The piece in progress: Even though the drawing and coloring is finished, I don’t want to show the entire thing just yes, so …
