December 30, raining, happy. Just popping in to quickly mention that I am, indeed, alive but won’t be back until about a week into the next year. I’ve been tasked with a new project that’s taking up, literally, all my time. However, I do dig the new year’s eve symbolism and plan to greet 2010 with a small group of friends, watching movies, drinking champagne, eating fondue, and being fahbulous. How about you? And so I don’t leave empty-handed: pictures …

It’s Christmas and no one’s online, so while I have this moment to myself I will sneak these photos of holiday cheer, LACHSA-style. Two of my oldest friends, Lumi and Josh, share a birthday on December tenth and occasionally celebrate together – this was such an occasion. Birthday hobo. These birthdays tend to turn into high school reunions and when you are a person who attended an arts high school, reunions are pure illicit merriment. The party was vagrant-themed and …

I’m just going to stop apologizing for taking too long to post this or that. So what if it’s been two months since the last Style Dispatch? You’ll take it when you can get it and you will love it. YEAHH! Wait… Where are you going? I was just joking. Please, come back. I took some photos of an outfit for you and everything! Was saving them for the holidays, but here they be now because I will have bigger …

I did something I shouldn’t ever do, which is let a few weeks’ worth of photos build up on my machine. Not good, not good at at all, because THIS is what happens when I do it. An avalanche of information and visuals, instead of manageable bite-sized bleep and bloops. Too late for regret now, so sit back and open wide. First up, last week’s print orders, among them the Orange Cream version of Honeydrip and colored-in Endless Commission. I …

I took these pictures of Jhonen Vasquez earlier this week, because it was time. Imagine this being the top result for your Google image search for the past six years. Sure, it’s cute at first, but then you start getting boxes of baby seals in the mail and the fun stops. Two of these are clickable.

Last month mister Christopher Hand commissioned a drawing, loosely inspired by Neli Gaiman’s Delirium and Death. Let it be known that Sandman was the single most inspiring comic book of my youth. I didn’t really get into comics [or, at the time, singular “comic”] until I was 15. Gaiman’s use of Greek mythology resonated with me, as that happened to be some of my favorite reading material growing up. His use of alluring goths also appealed to my then-extra-black soul, …

We’ve endured quite a lull, haven’t we? I give you my penance – the long-awaited eyebrow-drawing tutorial. This is not about tweezing or otherwise shaping natural brows – that would have been a sham! These are my tips, after all, and my eyebrows are nearly nonexistent. So if it’s natural eyebrow advice you’re after, I recommend heading here. Meanwhile, the rest of us will go over ways to enhance or replace brows with the help of cosmetics. Please don’t mind …

I think I might be typing this from beyond the grave. Today I: Woke up, evaluated condition Realized I was, possibly, even more sick than yesterday [ sweet!] Found a way to cope by slumping over a desk, refusing to speak, and drawing from 9am to 2pm Made the best garlic mashed potatoes I’ve ever made. Coincidentally, the first time I ever made garlic mashed potatoes. Retreated back to bed, where we watched Inglorious Basterds That’s all I got. Except …

Enjoying the silence, are we? If not, please accept my apologies – I’ve been sick. Sick for almost two weeks now, in fact. Like so many self-employed Americans I do not have health insurance, which has me in the interesting position of needing to find an affordable doctor. Tea and bed don’t seem to be doing their usual trick and I am so very, very sick of being sick and unproductive. Update: went to the doctor today. The visit was …

Presenting Honeydrip, completed just in time for the Haute Macabre exhibit. It’s a biggun, comparatively speaking – drawn on 17×22 Bristol board, then cut out mercilessly for scanning. This was initially meant to be a painting, but I got as far as two layers of paint before realizing it wasn’t at all what I wanted from the piece. A special, one-of-a-kind version of it is going in the show like this, instead. Honeydrip is a sort of follow-up to Nectar …

I’m down with a nasty cold, hopped up on Indian herbs, Genmaicha, and enough honey to drown in. Fairly sure most of my brain and body have shut down to give my drawing arm power. In fact, the arm is typing this entirely on its own. The sticky fruit of my labor, thus far. Not sure whether I’ll begin digitizing this today, as I’m being yelled at to “get the fuck in bed and get some sleep”.

Last week marked two years since the Coilhouse blog launched in October 2007. To commemorate the occasion, Nadya, Mer and I sat at our respective web-cams across the globe and made videos which Mer edited together to create the birthday masterpiece below. I invite you to read our two-year anniversary post here. While we’re on the subject of birthdays, Lou O’Bedlam had one, along with a celebratory barbecue. Ever since my days of adventuring down South, I’ve been fascinated with …

As mentioned a while back, I decided to finally dress as Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell for Halloween. Last year I boycotted the holiday altogether so it was definitely time to do it up. In retrospect, I realize that this differs very little from the way I usually look; in fact, I owned all of the items except the leotard before deciding to dress as the Major. I don’t know if that makes it a lazy costume and …

Nothing like a bit of Rick Owens to make one growl “I’m Batman” from a rooftop. As I type this, the glass in my sliding doors sounds like it’s about to shatter into a million slivers and all the light bulbs are blinking in unison. Yes, the winds are back with a vengeance here in Angel City, which means, inevitably, one thing: long drapey things ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I make special Batman face for you. And speaking of Batman, …

Alive after a whirlwind photo-adventure in Arizona. I have a Biorequiem To-Do list which includes shop updates, a new Style Dispatch post featuring my cape, and a very special eyebrow tutorial for Blush Response. Unfortunately, I’ve been stricken with a brutal migraine/fever combo which has me in aggressive recovery mode until the weekend. And what a magnificent weekend it should be! I’m especially looking forward to introducing Ales to the Dia De Los Muertos festivities at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, …
