This was initially meant to be a shoot for a long-overdue make up tutorial I promised Haute Macabre. However, when good friend and photo-sniper extraordinaire Lou O’Bedlam volunteered his services, we knew it had to be MORE. I’ve also been meaning to do these epic pants justice for quite a while.
Mhmm. I acquired these bad puppies sometime last year and actually can’t believe it took me this long to capture them. Perhaps I just needed the right pair of shoes, and my mom happened to give me these minimalicious-yet-witchypoo ankle boots from her collection around the holidays.
Over the weekend Lou and I zoomed down to somewhere between Pacific Palisades and Malibu, armed with a Canon, a Polaroid and a medium format camera. The day was beautiful, the cloud coverage was right and the wind was icy. The latter didn’t stop the a handful of intrepid surfers from getting into some of our shots. They’ve since been removed.

Lest we forget the makeup tutorial! It’s now up on Haute Macabre. Indeed, black lips can be done, especially with enough gloss.
A minor note, since some of you asked: I often can’t find the exact items I’m wearing, so I link to close proximities. In my opinion it’s fine anyhow, because in most cases it’s the overall structure that makes an outfit, not brands.

I feel the same way about my DRKSHDW leggings. I actually found the ones you linked to at Fever shop in Sweden for only $204! I nearly had a heart attack and promptly ordered them. They are now sitting in my drawer unworn like some precious stone. Yours are amazing though, I haven’t seen them anywhere.

This is by far the coolest make-up I’ve ever seen. It’s almost geisha-like, with the soft eye and cheek colors contrasting with the extreme lip-treatment.
But, yeah. Those pants. BANGIN’. Too bad they’re about $500 out of my price range…

I tend towards this sort of minimalist all-black uniform at the moment, because clean lines suit my curves, and your Style Dispatches are really inspiring right now for that reason!

Love the leggings. Love the black lips – never thought to use eyeliner for it. Love the transition from eye to cheek in shot 7. Not so much digging the yellow eyeshadow. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it makes you look a little sickly.

Ay, qué fabulosa! I do love me some yellow eyeshadow – definitely need to try a primary one. I’ve been using a metallic yellow gold cream from Makeup Forever for a while, but it’s high time to do some eye-dust shopping!
Well hell that’s a stunning use of yellow. I like yellow but as others have stated it’s a hard color to pull off. Expert use of makeup yet again that achieves a very high end replicant vibe overall.
The outfit…too much awesome. Also your skill for navigating rocks like that in those boots is impressive.

Never thought I would utter something like this, but hey, black lips and yellow eyes rock (but you’re right, black lips need a lot of shine, let matte dark lips reserve to the zombies . and yes, Mr. owens should be proud of you!

I think that it’s possible to create pants that are similar by adding panels to black skinny pants. I think that I have nothing to lose by trying.
Also, I tried out the makeup with one of L’oreal’s HIP eyeshadow duo. I don’t think it came out very well on me, though. Most likely because my hair is black. I usually have blue hair too. Black doesn’t give it that nice “bright contrast” effect.
the leggings are actually from the f/w 2007 ‘exploder’ main line collection. the design for these was not brought back in anything subsequent, and they’re still by and large the ultimate in dick oven pantalones.
Damn straight, Q, but the only ones that came even close on ShopStyle were the DrKshdw ones, hence the linkage.
beautiful. i’m not a make up girl, never have been and probably never will be, i guess i accept it as my personal philosophy at this point. but this sure as hell makes me want to play!
the way you “painted” your face with makeup is the same way I paint a person on canvas. They may have blue eyebrows, bright red shadows, etc. and I RARELY see people push their makeup and aesthetic to an almost surreal state in everyday life. WORK that artistic license chica, I LOVE it. I’m definitely coming back.
