Last week marked two years since the Coilhouse blog launched in October 2007. To commemorate the occasion, Nadya, Mer and I sat at our respective web-cams across the globe and made videos which Mer edited together to create the birthday masterpiece below. I invite you to read our two-year anniversary post here.
While we’re on the subject of birthdays, Lou O’Bedlam had one, along with a celebratory barbecue. Ever since my days of adventuring down South, I’ve been fascinated with this ritual. The secret sauce, its recipe guarded by generations, the grill preparation, the astonishment at how much food can actually be stuffed inside a single human stomach – all those elements remain the same no matter which state you’re in. Its simultaneously comforting and disturbing.
Vee is passionate about nuts.
I am passionate about sausage.
Lou’s dad is passionate about barbecue perfection. The mix master of meats. MEATMASTER.
Amanda liked my sock garters and had a bottle of spiked cranberry juice.
Lou turned 32 and looked fabulous doing it.
This is what October looks like here.
A and I had very different takes on the “meat coma” face.
After a serious post-BBQ nap, we were off to my favorite autumn event; the Dia De Los Muertos spectacle at the Hollywood Forever cemetery. I shot a huge gallery there I’m happy with that’s up over at China Shop right now. Click here to see it.
For Halloween, Chris Gore and I went on a costume-hunting quest, the documentation of which can be seen on China Shop, here.
This was one of my favorites – Lucy from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I attempted this costume once for a photo shoot, but I think this girl did it better. Here is my version, shot by Dan Santoni, before I go.
And now I go. More soon!
Love the video! (Especially the pie-face part. I would totally say the boobs part but I’m gay.)
Awesome shots too; my favourite halloween costume might be the Balloon Boy one…
face smashing into
cake!pie! It’s not a real birthday celebration without it.Happy Birthday Coilhouse!
Breathtaking photography and I still need to watch the video (still at work, damn it).
I like your version of Lucy better, but both are great.
Anyone who attempts dressing up as Lucy should be commended. That’s a tough costume to pull off and the girl in your pic did really well from what we can see. The area around the neck is particularly nice.
beautiful photos! Siberia is so cold, and you have sunshine and green grass. envy!)))))
xx
the video is so cute! happy 2 year b-day to Coilhouse and wishing you many more!
Cutest video EVER!
Another wonderful flurry.
The video gives me an even greater appreciation for the creativity of these three wonderful women.
It is indeed a masterpiece!
Happy Birthday Coilhouse!
The happy birthday video made me laugh. Happy Birthday Coilhouse!
I wish more people celebrated Dia De Los Muertos here in VA. Next year I may have to take matters into my own hands.
Birthday video was excellent! I am still fascinated by the straps on your top, Zo!!!
My absolute favorite costume this year was worn by a six-foot-three friend in four inch platforms dressed as Ziggy Stardust.
Never have I seen such glittery magnificence in my life.
Wow, the girl in the Lucy costume. Especially her make up. Wonder how to achieve that pearl-like glow on skin, I’ve been trying to figure out how to achieve it with make up since I saw something very similar on “Lesbian Vampire Killers”. I didn’t came back empty-handed on my research, but many of the products are either unavailable or would have to order online with the highest delivery fees ever seen Thank God for making Sephora, Benefit, MAC and Bobby Brown available worldwide hehe
