You do know that yesterday was no ordinary Sunday, right? Surely you are aware that it was Mr. Kot’s birthday. Well, it was, which means I’m finally free of gift-hiding – no easy task when you share your quarters. Mister Kot received: two pens, a notebook, The Anarchist Cookbook, McKenna’s Food of the Gods and Viktor & Rolf’s ”Antidote”. That last item was not entirely a selfless gift since we both wear it. We celebrated with bad movies, what we’ve deemed to be LA’s finest burgers and got caked by a slice of three-layer berry magic at Sweet Lady Jane.
Señor Kot with Micron.
Obviously, after such brazen indulgence, this is going to be Health Week! Actually, every week here is health week, so “Ultra Health Week” is more appropriate. All this conveniently brings us to the rest of this week’s Photo Flurry theme: FOOD. One day we’ll talk about food in-depth, perhaps in a Blush Response installment, but now is picture time. Onward!
Chirashi at Sushi Hiroba. Chirashi being one of my top 5 favorite things to eat. It’s assorted sashimi on seasoned rice. Mffff.
Cherry tomatoes and purple cabbage, in salad form.
Mongolian BBQ
Perhaps the most epic sandwich ever constructed.
Cayenne pepper/ honey/ soy sauce chicken: mix the above, marinate overnight, bake at 400 for 1 hour
Cherry tomatoes, frying.
Asparagus, chopped.
A worthy cap to the post, this image makes me think of one thing only: Story of the Eye by Bataille.
All looks major yummmm!!!!
I love taking food pictures! Seee: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=food&w=25689474%40N00
Ohhh man. Chirashi is amazing. Now, why must I be stuck in the ghetto, industrial, sushi-less filth north of Denver all day? Not fair.

You are making me impossibly hungry, and I have no time for lunch today.
And so I hate you. So much hate.
Monk and Mao, I once lived in Denver for almost two years and genuinely empathize. I don’t think I ate Japanese food even once while there.
Adarael, what can I say other than “Neener”?
First of all, I am so jealous that you went to Mongolian Barbecue. No one in my family likes that place…makes me sad.
And that sandwich looks epic. What is it, avocado and cheese and a whole bunch of other stuff on a bagel? It’s gorgeous. = ]
It’s funny how photos can make something like eggs look succulent and sexy. I love Bataille.
Man, Story of the Eye is such good things. I haven’t read it in forever.
When I took some photography classes in college, I spent a lot of time taking pics of people eating. It was all at once disgusting and awesome.
These are great pics, that birthday cake looks too good. TOO GOOD!
This almost made me lick my screen. That looks all sorts of delicious. You really should consider doing a little Dining in LA article if only for the fun of it and so creatures of habit like myself have other options to explore beyond the usual guides.
Ack forgot to add a belated Happy Birthday to Mr. Kot…who by the way clearly should be a comic book character with such a cool name like that.
Oo. Awesome. Happy Birthday!
(hey, can we go to umami next time I’m down?)
Thanks, people.
I love Kot’s face!
those fried cherry tomatoes look delicious!
