Fact: I love getting Thank You notes.
The Turquoise Tart tip-toed over my threshold just a day or so past, looking very demure in her mailing envelope. Once freed though, she was revealed to be a sparkling creature still shimmering from her seraglio (or so it seemed), & i swear she winked. Just once. It’s a lovely print, thank you so much.
Fact: I almost never have time to write them, so here is a a big, fat THANK YOU for your continued support, enthusiasm, and insightful comments. In that spirit, it’s time for a little autumn housekeeping!
I launched this version of Biorequiem last September, which is almost a year ago, and I would love to hear what you guys like to see more or less of. If there is anything you haven’t seen here, feel free to make suggestions, too, whether it be about the kind of stuff you see in the shop, the layout, the art, the features, or something else entirely.
September is an especially jovial month for me. It begins with my special pig, Jhonen Vasquez‘, birthday, ends with my husband’s, and heralds the onset of fall. It’s true, I’m not a big fan of summers. Living here in LA I’ve learned to begrudgingly tolerate them with gritting teeth and scarves despite the heat, but September means eventual October, which means layers and boots and hot tea and trying the fireplace in our new house and lighting ten chocolate candles at once and steaming bowls of ramen and shabu-shabu and Micron in a sweater. To summarize, UNF. Welcome, autumn.
Now go on, and let me know how I can make Biorequiem all that it can be, in the comments or via email, if you like.
Gotta ask, do you hand draw your lettering or do u have a treasure chest of secret, amazing fonts?
xo
Treasure chest, all the way! I also occasionally alter pre-existing fonts.
I actually really miss your weekly “what’s zo is wearing” posts.
I absolutely adore Biorequiem. I started following it religiously about a year ago now, and I still anxiously await every style dispatch and photo flurry. And I too cannot wait until the fall arrives…living in New England, it is truly the best season we have. Keep up the amazing site ^__^
Zoe, I love it just the way it is…though, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Ales. *meow*
I know I know. It was worth a shot ;)
xoxo
Is it odd that I LOVE Autumn but hate winter?
But, ofcoarse, I live in Wisconsin where winter comes in like a screetching hell beast and stays until I’m on the brink of suicide.
I just wanted to say how much I love this place! I’ve been silently lurking for a while now but wanted to let you know I’d love to see more Blush Response! I’m fairly rubbish at the whole make-up thing but you’ve given me some wonderful tips. Also, like b. anca I really miss your ‘what’s zo wearing’ posts, your wardrobe fascinates me!
Me? I’m not looking forward to Autumn that much but only because it mean rain, rain and some more rain – I live in the UK! Can’t wait for winter tho!
I agree entirely with the above posters regarding your posts on what you’re wearing. I dunno if you stopped because it became tedious for you or because you’re just a busy lady, but I enjoyed them!
The site is beautiful and I love the content! Keep it coming!
And we’re totally in agreement about Fall. I was born and raised in San Diego and have lived in LA for almost 6 years. While I’m sure I couldn’t tolerate “real” falls/winters elsewhere, I look forward to the months that don’t require multiple applications of sunscreen and deodorant throughout the day.
Your dog in that sweater is precious. Does Micron like other dogs? If so, we should have a play date with my 2 Pomeranians sometime. They have built in sweaters :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/andykhouri/sets/72157623378438683/
I am a new reader and I enjoy your blush response after reading previous posts I would also like to see “What zo is wearing” I admire your style, and your writing. <3
I love the transition from summer to fall in california, like the weather now, warm summer days unwinding into chilly nights, I can enjoy my vintage sundresses and my hot tea all in one day.
MOAR MICRON
Ahhh I do rather love autumn though in Scotland it feels like we only enjoy it for a few weeks before the darkness fall till March-ish.
I have been visiting Biorequiem for a year and I am always delighted by the content. I particularly adore the Blush Response as I love learning about new make-up techniques.
I stumbled upon biorequiem after a seemingly endless search of tips for how to properly rid myself of the evil nice n’ easy blue/black. I was in the process of blue-ing mah follicles and something about “zoetica ebb” came up and I was like… woa….. How did I NOT know about this individual?! So I also say thank you, sincerely, because you give honest, self-taught advice on many obscure and necessary things from hair-care to impeccable style; and I appreciate it.
From the girl who’s got your artwork on her arm: t h a n k y o u! >.<
What would we like to see more of? Everything! I started following you after finding your WZW column, I do miss those but the rest of you — makeup, photos, art — is no less mesmerizing than your wardrobe. Thank you for being incredible.
I lurrrrrrrve the Style Dispatch section the most. You have the most amazing tips and ideas. I would love to see photos of your new house, and perhaps home decorating tips? Thank you so much for this website.
I’ve been reading your missives since 2000 (I think) and have seen the many stages of development. I must say, I enjoy BR in its current state, especially the Blush Response and WZW columns. I miss seeing your artwork though; do you still paint in oil or are you full-tilt digital now?
Either way, seeing more of your photography (outside SG) and artwork is always a nice treat.
Also, needs more Lumi! It was always nice seeing the two of you together in photo shoots, etc.
Thanks for the years of intrigue!
xoxo
I love your blog! I check it almost everyday :)
I’d like to see more makeup-related Blush Response (I actually found you through the Sugarpill website :)) and I love your Photo Flurries, so more of that! :D
Oh! And more Style Dispatch too!
Ditto what everyone has already said: Moar Style Dispatch. Moar Blush Response. Moar Micron. Moar Ales. Oh, and moar Zo.. Obviously.
Also, wouldn’t mind a peak into the new abode..
Of course, I think your rabid fanbase will always scream for more, but your blog thus far has been fantastic, and a pleasure to experience. Thank you for every bit of it!
To be honest Zoe , I think you’re so fucking great – I love you! Seriously, all I’d want is more of you!
I don’t mean to sound creepy. I’m just being sincere :)
<3 <3 <3

More everything, indeed! Especially Style Dispatch! I find it so interesting and inspiring to see what new attire you’ve put together. Ever since your weekly What’s Zo Wearing, I’ve been hooked. All in all, I adore Biorequiem, it’s so wonderful at the end of the day to relax and see what new content is up that is ready to be assimilated.
Also, my insides were melting with anticipation as you were explaining, October, boots, layers, sitting by the fire with a warm cup of tea. Mmmmm nom.
I’d like to see moar artz, but showing us your progress right up to the finished piece. Maybe even some more of your older artwork.
Thanks for all of the awesome posts over the past year!
Baww! Peeps! The love, I feel it. Serious beaming going on over here.
I have reviewed your requests so far and it looks like you want more of everything, eh? I know I really should be posting more artstuff, too… Time! I NEED MORE TIME.
Anyhow, keep ’em coming and I’ll see what I can do.
P.S. Keep your grubby paws off mah man, Joshua Ellis [and all you other lech-bots]! Don’t make me bust out the ruler and show y’all what’s what.
I really like it when you post about the foods you’re eating, and especially when you include pictures. You have such an inspiring way of writing about the little things, like scrambled eggs. Makes me want to cook!
And you know what else would be FANTASTIC…I’d love to see a forum. I think your fans are like-minded people that I would gladly interact with, and since Coilhouse doesn’t have a forum we would happily congregate here!
EVERYTHING.
But mostly I’d like mucho más Photo Flurry and Blush Responses. Oh yes…teach us how you cut your hair next! puh-puh-puhlease?
Moar Style Dispatches, definitely! I used to get excited each Sunday knowing a new WZW was on its way…your fashion photos are very empowering in a completely non-superficial way and inspire me to inject a little of your style of kickassery into my own life.
BUT! Any amount of Zoetica is lovely, so I can’t complain!
Happy proto-autumn!
Thank You Note:
Thanks for turning me onto ‘Stars Lost Your Name’ by Clearsignals… it kept me sane through large chunks of this year.
Loving your work,
D.
Hi Zoetica ! The only thing I actually miss on your website is a Links section. I’d love to know your favourite places on the WWW, as another source for inspiration.
As for the contents, I love your style and personal photos ! Having a glimpse through your workplace(s) is always a treat.
Someone suggested a forum – not too sure about that: it’s a lot of work to moderate and to keep alive ; maybe that’d be a better suggestion for Coilhouse.
At last, I hope you will make the site’s design more personal, i.e with custom fonts (@font-face is so easy to set up)! :)
Yes! Info on hair-cutting techniques would be awesome! I’ve been creepily trying to replicate your hair styles (or at least use them as a jumping off point) on my head for ever so long, and with limited success- a tutorial would be so welcome.
Also, more everything. I agree with the above posts- more more more!
I’m still loving the Blush Response and Style Dispatch entries most fervently. Also, I would be pleased to see more entries on the art shows you’ve taken part in as well as your travel adventures! <3
I’d love to see more of your creative process (not only the finished artwork) and inspirations. I loved the Interrogation Station where you took us through your artistic evolution, for example.
Oh, I absolutely love your blog the way it is. It’s one of the few blogs I get all excited to read. I love how it’s subtly personal-but-not-really and I do enjoy looking at the fashion-y stuff (it’s really made me be like “MELISSA, WHAT KINDA PERSON DO YOU WANNA BE AND WHAT DO YOU WANNA WEAR TO SHOW IT?!) and the arts-y stuff (i love seeing visual art. words are my specialty but I can’t make a visual art piece for the life of me!). I know you have some good taste in music and literature, i wanna hear about some of it!
uhh, otherwise. thanks for being rad.
For us college art students who learn nothing of finding work in college: I would love to know what techniques you find best to be a working artist and how you go finding artistic jobs.
i like it the way it is! i like that it’s easy to find previous posts.
Suggestion:
LOUDER!

maaaaan I love this blog so hard. Much like others I love seeing your art and the style dispatch stuff, mostly because I like pretty things and pretty things are so plentiful there. Thankyou so much for all the happy you bring here ^__^
I’d also like to see more “What’s Zo Wearing?” posts as well as more Blush Response. Also, it’d be nice to have some more process shots of your art and maybe a breakdown of how you create some of your pieces? Also, many thanks for all the amazing posts so far, and I hope Biorequiem continues for a very long time!
