We meet again, my fellow aesthetes. The occasion? I just got my hands on a myriad of Aromaleigh eye shadow samples and it’s been a while since the previous edition of Blush Response, so I decided to try the new stuff with an eye look I wear all the time: burnished smoke.
It’s a quick and versatile method that’s worked on every face shape I tried it on, back in my professional face-paintin’ days. If you’re not doing this already, I encourage you to attempt it.
I went with shimmery graphite [Soul Takes Flight] and pearl [Air & Light] pigments from Les Papillons collection, and Bette [an instant favorite, just look at it] from the sultry Bete Noir collection. You probably love the product names as much as I do.
Here’s how I engineered this look:
- After applying mineral face powder and eyebrows, I lined my water line with a black pencil, then added a little liner to the outer corners of my upper eyelids, blending it out with a smudging brush
- With a sponge applicator, swept a layer of Soul Takes Flight all over my lids and a little under the eyes, then blended out with a brush
- Brushed Air & Light on to the inner corners of my eyes, then blended a bit over the inner corners of the upper eyelids
- Applied Bette to the outer creases [under the brow bone] and blended out.
- Used a bit more of my mineral face powder to highlight along the eyebrows
- Applied mascara
- Finished the look with some E.L.F. lip gloss
Somehow, I didn’t have any experience with Aromaleigh products before getting these samples [madness, I know], so today I spent a bit of time poking around their website, and am thoroughly inspired and impressed by the vast array of not only colors, but types of make up. All sorts of eye shadows, eye liners, eye shadow cremes, primers, concealers, powder foundations in an extensive range of shades, skin treatments, etc. – and all mineral. The mind and wallet boggle.

Verdict: These are among the most multi-dimensional, richest, and longest-lasting eye shadows I’ve used. I’m going to tear through these samples like an SR-71 Blackbird, and return for more.
you must try Lilith as well, it’s a shimmery grey with blue and green iridescence, very lovely!
I will definitely be trying this look. I love the Les Papillons, but the En Pointe collection wins in my opinion for uniqueness and multi-dimensional shades. I haven’t tried the Bete Noire eyeshadows yet but they’re on my wishlist.
Oh, man, if there’s ever more reason to get me some samples after these pictures it’ll make my mind asplode. Aromaleigh is like the chipped paint spots on my skirting boards, I keep meaning to fix them but never get around it. Must. Engage. Wallet. Gruh.

I’m in LOVE, but how would that look with blue eyes? I’m afraid it might wash them out
If there is ever a time in the future where I start wearing makeup for whatever reason, I’ll have to remember this.
BUT, until then, I’ll just be satisfied with the wonderful portrait and fantastic skin.

This look is lovely. I’ve been considering trying Aromaleigh for a while now (since MAC changed the amount of pigment you get but not the price); I think you’ve sold me on it.
Question: Do you use primer with your eyeshadows?
@LittleAmanda I wear monochrome looks similar to this 6/7 days a week and it looks fine with blue eyes, especially if you use slightly brown based greys.

I just learned about aromaleigh and I’m so excited! I feel like I’m telling every single person who will listen. I love their color selection and the fact that you can try samples. I am still getting the hang of the foundation and trying to find a good match, but it’s comparable to my old foundation and my skin is already breaking out less. Wooo!

I have couple of questions:
When you say sponge applicator do you mean the small type which often come with eye shadows, or the bigger triangle type usually used for foundation?
Also, I often have trouble getting an even coat with shadows, regardless of wet or dry, applicator or use of primer. Any idea if this is an issue with the product or the method or application.
Oh! Thanks for this! I never really experiment with eyeshadow, but I have been eying the Aromaleigh stuff for a bit now (I was interested in the foundation, a ha!). I can def do some greys/silver/pearl (I find it hard to accent eyeshadow with my red glasses. So many things clash!). I must try.
As always: STUNNING. I am dumb when it comes to directions. I would have to say I am a more “learn by example” type of person. Any chance you would make a vid of yourself doing your makeup. A tutorial of sorts for dummies like me?

@.typhoid Hey thanks, thats generally my rule of thumb, too. But I still feel like I’m always leaning towards “cool” browns, like taupe colors. However, I’m not a fan of bronzish or redtone browns, which really do bring out the blue. Maybe I am just too damn picky?
I adore Aromaleigh. I first heard of it through singer Emilie Autumn and pounced on the chance to use these fabolous materials! Thanks for this tutorial, it’s a gorgeous look and with the make-up I prefer! I have no doubt you will be in love as you continue to explore their site :)
I bought quite a few samples from Aromaleigh after reading this post. They are all wonderful! I even got some Power Foundation, Blush, and Highlight that are very nice. I used the same shadows here plus morbid curiosity.
